How we work it out

Our estimate, not a usage measurement. We add the speeds of your simultaneous activities, plus 20% headroom. Monthly data uses these everyday allowances:

  • HD streaming: 3 GB per hour; 4K: 7 GB per hour. Each stream counted runs for 1 hour a day.
  • Video calls: our estimate uses 1.5 GB per hour for 1 hour on each of 22 workdays. Actual use varies with call quality.
  • Each browsing device includes a music allowance of 0.1 GB per hour for 1 hour a day. This is our allowance, not Spotify's normal-quality rate.
  • Gaming traffic: 0.1 GB per hour for 2 hours a day. Game downloads are not included.
  • Each camera or smart device: 0.3 GB a day for uploaded clips.
  • We add 15 GB a month for browsing, updates and phones on Wi-Fi, and use 30 days a month.

Questions about your number
