Better Wi-Fi in every room

Your plan vs your Wi-Fi

Your plan brings internet to the house. Wi-Fi carries it around the house. Walls, floors, metal and distance weaken Wi-Fi, so a fast plan can still feel slow in a back bedroom.

Five fixes, free first

  1. Put the router in the middle of the home, up high, in the open.
  2. Keep it away from microwaves, TVs and fish tanks, and out of cabinets.
  3. Plug in a cable for the TV or work computer.
  4. Restart the router once in a while.
  5. For big or multi-floor homes, add a mesh system or extender.

Wi-Fi generations in one line each

NameWhat's new
Wi-Fi 5Fast 5 GHz Wi-Fi, still fine for most homes
Wi-Fi 6Handles many devices at once better
Wi-Fi 6EAdds the less crowded 6 GHz band
Wi-Fi 7Newest, higher peaks, most homes don't need it yet

2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz

2.4 GHz reaches farther through walls. 5 GHz is faster but shorter range. Many routers pick for you.

Key takeaways

  • Most "slow internet" is really weak Wi-Fi.
  • Router placement is the best free upgrade.
  • Mesh helps large homes; a cable beats both.
